Werribee Park: Grounds

Explore ten hectares of exquisite formal gardens, a unique riverine area, and historical farm outbuildings.  Take a stroll through the contemporary sculpture walk, a unique outdoor exhibition that perfectly blends contemporary Australian sculpture with the natural environment. Or simply relax with a picnic, a coffee in the cafe/giftshop. Werribee Park was purchased by the Victoria State Government in 1973. It was opened as a tourist attraction in 1977. It is run by Parks Victoria

Werribee Park Mansion

Werribee Park Mansion was completed by wealthy pastoralists, the Chirnside family in 1877. Built in the Italianate architecture style, Werribee Mansion boasts 60 rooms in several wings. Following extensive restoration, many of the Chirnside family’s items, including clothing, furniture remain on display.

Rose Garden

Winner of the prestigious World Federation of Rose Societies Award for Garden Excellence, this internationally acclaimed garden is located in the magnificent setting of Werribee Park.

5,000 roses are displayed to perfection within four uniquely shaped designs, the feature design set in the shape of a Tudor Rose. Two themed displays complete the rose design; a Federation Leaf dedicated to Australian roses and the David Austin Bud showcasing roses of 46 cultivars.

The Werribee rose garden is separated from the mansion's formal gardens by a Heritage Border featuring unusual and historic roses from around the world. In bloom from October to May, the roses are at their most magnificent from November to April.

Werribee Zoo

Why travel thousands of kilometres when a taste of African adventure is available just 30 minutes from Melbourne's city centre, at Werribee Open Range Zoo? You will find an amazing array of animals living on 225 hectares of wide, open savannah.

On the Pula Reserve Walking Trail, come face-to-face with amazing gorillas, a pride of lions, see monkeys and cheetahs at play and feel the sand between your toes at the new Hippo Beach.

No trip to the Zoo is complete without heading out on safari across grassy plains where you will find rhinoceros, giraffes, zebras and antelopes grazing together on the picturesque savannah.

All of the above, including the 40-minute safari tour, is included in the Zoo admission price. For those looking for even more adventure, why not try one of the behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters? Feed a giraffe, stroke a serval, see amazing animals on the savannah from an open vehicle, and, in the new Gorilla Behind the Scenes encounter, get up close and personal with three gorilla bachelors.
