FAQs

Q.

Do you cater for birthday party’s?

A.

Yes. Little Red Train is very popular with all ages and is the perfect addition to a birthday party. If your planning your party to be held at Werribee Park you can purchase a prepaid 'gift card' at the normal rate of $6 per person. You can hand these to your guests entitling them to 1 x train ride per gift card. These can be simply purchased from the train driver on the day.  Your guests can line up and board the train anytime during normal trading hours (the vouchers also have no expiry date). The train can seat up to 10 Adults or 15 Children. No bookings are required or taken as the gift cards are always available. This option is very cost effective as private train hire starts at a minimum of $330.

Q.

Can I get to Werribee Park via public transport?

A.

Yes. If departing from the City catch a train to Werribee Railway Station on the Werribee Line. Then find the connecting bus terminal (Bay 6) and hop aboard the number 439 Bus towards Werribee South. The bus will stop directly out the front of Werribee Park. NOTE: The bus only departs about once per hour so it is worth planning your journey in advance. It will take about 1 hour to get here from the City on Public transport if planned in advance. See www.ptv.vic.gov.au for further travel information.

Q.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

A.

Yes. Gift vouchers make a great present for all ages. You can purchase a gift voucher in person from your friendly train driver or instantly purchase online here.

Q.

Do you offer group discounts?

A.

Sorry, we do not. Due to our limited capacity and already low ticket price we are unable to offer group discounts.

Q.

How often does the train depart?

A.

The train departs approximately every 12 minutes between 10:00am and 4:00pm in front of Werribee Park Mansion.

Q.

How many seats does the train have?

A.

The Train can seat up to 10 Adults, or 15 Children (5 rows of bench style seating facing forward).

Q.

What type of train is it?

A.

The train is different from a regular train as this one doesn't run on tracks! It is a trackless train custom built in Australia. The train is built on a Taylor & Dunn towmotor. It has an electric motor so there are no smells, loud noises or pollutions to spoil your journey.

Q.

Do you welcome companion cards?

A.

Yes. Companion cards are very welcome, this allows the carer to ride alongside their companion at no charge. Please inform the Little Red Train staff if you also require assistance in boarding or exiting the train.

Q.

Is the train wheelchair accessible?

A.

No. Due to the limited space and design of the train a wheelchair will not be able to board. The Little Red Train staff may be able to offer limited assistance in loading/unloading of the passenger(s) if required.

Q.

Where are the toilets located?

A.

Public toilets are located in the gate lodge building as you enter Werribee Park and within Werribee Park Mansion. For disabled access you will need to use the public toilets located within the Mansion.

Q.

Can I buy food & drinks?

A.

Yes. All food and drinks can be purchased at the Cafe or Restaurant located within Werribee Park Mansion.

Q.

Do I have to pay an entry fee?

A.

No. Entering the Werribee Park grounds and rose garden is completely FREE. The all day on-site car parking is also FREE. Little Red Train is an optional activity and you only have to pay if you ride. Spectators may watch at no charge. Note: An entry fee is payable to go inside the Werribee Park Mansion.

Q.

How fast does the train go?

A.

The train travels at about 8 km/h. This is a very leisurely pace and will allow you to have a good look at the scenery on the way.

Q.

Can I take my pram on the train?

A.

Maybe. The train has very limited storage space on board and other paying passengers have priority. We recommend organising to have your pram minded by a friend. If the train has sufficient unoccupied space our Staff will decide if we can accommodate your pram. Prams will travel FREE of charge. The Little Red Train staff will not mind your belongings for you. Another option is to leave your pram at the 'station' at your own risk (please remove any valuables first).

Q.

How can I avoid the queues?

A.

As the train departs frequently, the queues are generally pretty short throughout most of the day making anytime great to visit.

Q.

How much does a fare cost?

A.

All fares are $6 per person, per ride (everyone pays kids prices). Toddlers under 3 ride for FREE.

Q.

Do you operate when it is raining?

A.

Yes. However during heavy downpours we may stop operating until the rain eases up. The train is fitted with a waterproof canopy overhead providing a degree of rain protection for the passengers. No refunds are issued in the event of rain. On days of consistent rain we may close early.

Q.

Is the train just for little kids?

A.

No. The train is a family friendly ride. Mum and Dad will enjoy their on board experience just as much as the kids. The scenery is absolutely stunning and is appreciated by all.

Q.

Can I make a booking?

A.

No. We do not take bookings for public rides. Passengers are boarded on a first come, first serve basis. Allowing bookings will significantly increase the ticket price and reduce the efficiency of operations. Plus, we like to be available to the public at all times. Private hire may be possible with prices starting at $220/hour with a 1.5 hour minimum.

Q.

What will I see on the journey?

Q.

A.

The train ride will take about 9 minutes to complete the circuit. You will travel about 1.1km around Werribee Park. The ride will finish back at the starting point.
